The bond between humans and animals is real attachment — and losing them triggers the same grief responses as losing any loved one. The pain makes sense. It always did.
Most people find themselves minimizing their loss around others — nodding along to at least you had them so long or you can always get another one — and quietly changing the subject.
This is a space for anyone who loved an animal deeply and is struggling in the aftermath. Whatever the circumstances of the loss, your grief doesn't need a defense here.
Grief coaching is not therapy, though it is grounded in trauma-informed care, compassion, and emotional support.
It is a collaborative space where we work with your grief as it is — helping you understand what you’re feeling, move through it at your own pace, and begin to find steadier ground when you’re ready.
There is no script, checklist, or timeline to follow. Sessions are conversational, flexible, and shaped around your needs in the moment.
Sessions are available virtually (video or phone) and in person for those in the Hamptons, NY area.
Each session is guided by what feels most supportive for you that day. Some may be more reflective and emotional; others more practical, focusing on decisions, guilt, anticipatory grief, or navigating daily life after loss.
If you’re unsure whether grief coaching is right for you, you’re welcome to reach out. We can talk through what support might look like and decide what feels appropriate for you.

When you know a goodbye is coming, the grief often begins long before the loss itself. Anticipatory grief can feel isolating and confusing — you are mourning someone who is still here. This work helps you hold both the love and the loss at the same time, so that the time you have left feels as full and present as possible.

Few things carry more weight than deciding when it is time to say goodbye. The guilt, the uncertainty, the love behind every impossible question — these deserve a space to be spoken aloud and held with care. Grief coaching can help you navigate these decisions with clarity and compassion, so that whatever choice you make, you make it from a place of love rather than fear.

When loss comes without warning — through accident, emergency, or illness that moved faster than anyone expected — the grief can feel like whiplash. There is no preparation, no chance to say everything you needed to say. This work meets you in the shock and confusion of that experience and helps you begin to find solid ground.

"Did I do enough?" "Did I wait too long?" "Should I have known?" These questions are almost universal in pet loss — and they are also some of the heaviest to carry alone. Complicated grief, marked by guilt, regret, or unresolved emotion, requires a gentle and patient approach. Together we work to untangle those feelings with honesty and without judgment, so that guilt does not become the loudest part of your story.

Grief does not end with loss — in many ways, it is only beginning. The days after can feel hollow, disorienting, and full of reminders. This work supports you in rebuilding a sense of rhythm and meaning, honoring your pet's memory while slowly, gently, finding your way back to yourself.
