What Is a Pet End of Life Doula? What do they offer?

A Pet End of Life Doula is a non-medical support professional who works alongside veterinary teams to support the emotional, practical, and relational needs of families during a pet’s final stages of life.

This role is focused on presence, guidance, and emotional grounding — helping families navigate both the anticipated and unexpected aspects of saying goodbye.

How This Support Helps Families

What Is a Pet End of Life Doula? What do they offer?

I offer gentle, individualized support to help you feel more grounded, informed, and connected during this time. This can include:

  • Emotional support during decision-making and preparation
  • Guidance around what to expect as a pet declines naturally or approaches euthanasia
  • Support in understanding signs of decline and available comfort measures
  • Help reflecting on your pet’s quality of life and what a “good day” looks like for them
  • Assistance creating personal rituals or memorials to honor your pet’s life
  • Support in processing anticipatory grief, loss, and what comes afterward

Every family’s experience is different. Support is always shaped around your needs, your values, and your relationship with your animal.

Integrating with Veterinary Care

Integrating with Veterinary Care

I work in collaboration with veterinary professionals to ensure your pet’s medical care and comfort remain the priority. My role is to support the emotional experience alongside that care.

Together, this kind of collaborative approach can help with:

  • Clearer communication between families and veterinary teams
  • Emotional preparation for difficult decisions
  • Greater sense of grounding during end-of-life care
  • A more supported and intentional goodbye for both pet and family
